South Carolina State House |
The original state house was torched by General Sherman's troops during the Civil War... supposedly. In General Sherman's own words, "I did not order the burning of the city, but I am not sorry that it happened." South Carolina was the first state to secede, so Sherman had no mercy when he marched through after he had completed his March to the Sea. |
